Terms & Conditions

Terms governing the booking, purchase and use of Your Go-To English Teacher services.

By booking, purchasing or using a service, you accept these Terms. These Terms do not limit any consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or waived.

1. Services

YGTE offers Speaking Practice, General English, IELTS preparation, professional and legal English, corporate training, written feedback and initial consultations. Services are designed for adults.

Speaking Practice sessions last 25 minutes. Other individual lessons last 50 minutes unless agreed otherwise in writing.

2. Initial consultation

New learners may book a free consultation of up to 15 minutes to discuss goals and possible services. It is not a complete lesson, does not guarantee availability and does not oblige either party to continue.

3. Prices and payment

Lessons are prepaid unless a written corporate arrangement applies. COP rates apply to clients based in Colombia and international USD rates apply to clients based outside Colombia. COP and USD prices are separate price lists and are not intended to represent direct currency conversions. A booking is confirmed when payment is received or YGTE confirms it in writing. Submitting the payment-identification form and accessing the scheduling link do not constitute automatic verification; every booking remains subject to payment verification.

Available payment methods may include U.S. bank details provided through Global66, Wise, PayPal and Bold, as shown at checkout. For bank transfers and similar transfer-based methods, including payments made through Wise, YGTE must receive the full invoiced amount. Any fees charged by the client’s bank, intermediary banks or another payment provider are the client’s responsibility.

Payments through PayPal, Bold or similar payment-processing services may be subject to processing charges, currency-conversion costs, foreign-transaction fees or card-related charges imposed by the relevant provider or the client’s bank. Unless expressly stated otherwise at checkout, YGTE does not add a separate surcharge merely for choosing either of these services.

Clients are responsible for ensuring that their selected payment method is valid and enabled for the relevant transaction. Where an international credit or debit card is required, it must be enabled for online and international transactions. A payment failure or card decline caused by the client’s bank, card issuer or payment provider does not constitute a confirmed booking. The client should contact the relevant bank or provider before attempting the payment again.

4. Package validity

Validity begins with the first lesson, which must take place within 14 days after purchase unless agreed otherwise. If no first lesson is booked within that period, validity is deemed to begin on day 14 after purchase. Four-week plans and 60-day Flex packages must be used within the stated period. Learners must book sufficiently early.

5. Cancellations and rescheduling

Lessons may be cancelled or rescheduled without penalty with at least 12 hours’ notice. A cancellation made with less than 12 hours’ notice will normally be charged in full or deducted from the learner’s package. However, YGTE may offer rescheduling or a replacement lesson when the circumstances reasonably justify it.

6. Lateness and absence

A late learner’s session ends at the original time. A learner who does not join within 15 minutes and does not communicate is treated as absent. Repeated late cancellations or absences may result in termination or a requirement to book single lessons only.

7. Cancellation by YGTE

If YGTE cancels, the lesson will be rescheduled or the package validity extended. If YGTE cannot provide a prepaid lesson within a reasonable period and no suitable alternative date can be agreed, the undelivered lesson will be refunded or credited as appropriate. If a package expires because of a cancellation or delay attributable to YGTE, its validity will be extended at no cost.

8. Technical issues

Each party must have a suitable internet connection, device and audio setup. Classes cannot be taken on a mobile phone. Students must join using a computer or tablet and attend from a quiet, suitable space where they can participate comfortably and without unnecessary distractions. If YGTE reasonably considers that the learner’s environment or setup is materially interfering with the lesson—for example, because of excessive noise, persistent distractions, the camera remaining off when its use is reasonably required, or a similar issue—YGTE may ask the learner to correct it. If the issue is not corrected after one notice, YGTE may end the lesson.

Technical difficulties on the learner’s side do not automatically entitle the learner to a refund, replacement lesson or rescheduling. However, genuine technical difficulties may be excused, and YGTE may offer a replacement or rescheduling at its discretion depending on the circumstances. If the issue is caused by YGTE or a general platform failure, the affected lesson time will be restored, extended or rescheduled without charge.

9. Expired package reactivation

A single reactivation of up to half of the purchased sessions that remain unused may be requested within thirty (30) days after the package expires. Reactivation will cost twenty-five per cent (25%) of the unit price of each reactivated session. Reactivated sessions will be valid for a further thirty (30) days and will be subject to availability.

Expired sessions, no-shows and late cancellations are non-refundable, without prejudice to the consumer’s mandatory statutory rights.

10. Refunds and statutory right of withdrawal

These Terms do not affect consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law. Where applicable, a consumer may exercise the statutory right of withdrawal within the period and under the conditions established by Colombian law. This right is subject to the relevant legal exceptions, including those concerning services that have begun with the consumer’s consent.

If YGTE voluntarily accepts a refund after a package has started, lessons already taken may be recalculated at the single-lesson rate and legally permitted non-recoverable costs may be deducted. As a general rule, expired lessons, absences and cancellations made with less than 12 hours’ notice are not refundable.

11. Transfers

Lessons and packages are personal and may not be sold, assigned or shared without written permission.

12. IELTS and outcomes

YGTE is independent from IELTS and the organisations that administer the test. YGTE does not guarantee levels, promotions, employment outcomes, admissions or test scores. Feedback and any estimated band are educational guidance informed by relevant publicly available criteria; they are not an official IELTS result or an official examiner assessment.

13. Asynchronous feedback services

Asynchronous feedback services are separate from live lessons. The scope, price and conditions applicable to each service are those displayed on the relevant service page and at the time of purchase.

14. Intellectual property

Learners may use, download and print original YGTE materials for personal educational use. They may not sell, publish, commercially distribute or use them to create another commercial course or product without permission. Third-party materials retain their respective rights.

15. Recording, transcription and AI-assisted tools

YGTE may use tools such as Granola to assist with lesson notes, feedback and progress tracking. If a session is to be transcribed, the learner will be informed beforehand and consent will be requested. Consent is optional, and declining does not affect access to lessons, their price or quality.

Information obtained through these tools will be used only for purposes related to providing and improving the educational service and will be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary. Learners may not record or transcribe sessions without YGTE’s consent.

16. Conduct and safety

Both parties must behave respectfully. A session ended because of serious misconduct may be treated as used. Serious or repeated misconduct, including harassment, discrimination, threats, fraud or abuse, may result in termination of the teaching relationship. Any prepaid lessons remaining at that point will be handled in accordance with applicable consumer law.

17. Corporate services

Corporate programmes may be governed by additional proposals or contracts. Where inconsistent, the specific agreement prevails for the covered service.

18. Changes

YGTE may update these terms for legal or operational reasons. The version applying to a purchase is normally the version current at purchase unless a mandatory or learner-beneficial change applies.

19. Written communications

Email and written WhatsApp messages count as communications in writing unless the law requires another form.

20. Law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Colombian law. The parties will seek to resolve differences in good faith. Learners retain the right to contact competent authorities, including Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
